NEW ENGINE RACE PREPARATION

$300.00

Every new engine, regardless of brand, benefits from being “race prepped”, “blueprinted”, “fiched”, or whatever you want to call it. What does this process involve? The process mainly involves resetting various clearances within the rules to maximize performance. Engines come from the factory set up for durability, not maximum performance. Our race-prep service takes care of that. A race prepped motor is a must for serious competition. Modern kart engines are built so well, and so close performance-wise, that little nuances in the build are what set motors apart. Price is $300 for engines purchased through F + S, and $500 for engines purchased elsewhere. Our race preparation includes:

1.) optimizing piston clearance - we re-hone* the cylinder to reach the piston clearance we look for and to set the depth and pattern of crosshatch.

2.) reset the squish gap - we will replace/re-size the cylinder base gaskets to get a target squish band size given that engine’s specific port locations.

3.) crank run-out - cranks out of the factory are usually perfect, but we will always double check that the crank is true before the engine leaves our shop. If a crank is not perfect on a new engine we sell, we will make it so at no additional cost (this is a labor intensive process).

4.) blueprint the carb - we disassemble the carb, and optimize the fulcrum lever height, pop-off pressure, and butterfly valve.

5.) starter motor - nothing too exciting here, but we remove the starter motor to reinforce the brushes with silicone for longer life.

6.) engine break-in - every new engine is carefully broken in on our dyno and tested vs one of our proven, National-level engines. Every new motor is tuned on the dyno to ensure it is set up to be at its best.

* all cylinders are honed on one of our precision Sunnen hones with kart specific mandrels and stones. Rotax cylinders are honed with custom diamond stones.
